Our Story

Founder Sara Goduco & CEO Ralph Goduco
In 2004, Sara Goduco, an early childhood education (ECE) preschool teacher, discovered the urgent need to help local schoolchildren with supplies. Meeting two boys who had escaped domestic violence—lacking beds, food, and even Christmas presents—transformed her teaching experience and opened her eyes to the challenges many face.
Observation is a vital skill for teachers, and Sara frequently witnessed students sharing their leftover school supplies. This always brought to mind the two boys who needed support. In her first year, she used her own money to collect and provide supplies.
In 2009, Sara founded Global Literacy Outreach, one of the first women-run BIPOCH (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) nonprofits in the Bay Area. Her mission was to connect with communities overlooked by other government programs and nonprofits. With the help of local communities, private funders, and dedicated volunteers, Sara has served thousands of children and families, distributing over 100,000 school supplies without relying on grants or government funding.
Many of the children she helps come from families who live in the shadows, often invisible to their communities, or from working-class homes that do not qualify for aid programs. As an educator, Sara understands the importance of ensuring every child has equal access to academic resources.
School supplies have created a profound impact; reports show that children feel a sense of belonging when they have them. Most importantly, this access prevents children from falling behind, allowing them to embark on a safe and healthy educational journey.
